Sample Size Calculations for Microarray Studies

  • Pounds and Cheng (2005) develop a general method to calculate the sample size for a microarray study that will use the false discovery rate as the ultimate measure of statistical significance. They also derive specific details to implement their method to compute the sample size for the specific purpose of planning an experiment that compares gene expression across two or more groups in a one-way layout.
  • Code to perform the calculations for the one-way layout is available in R. To receive alerts regarding software updates, send an e-mail with "Software Update" in the subject line.
